Trip quê?! Hop! Isso mesmo: trip-hop, um género que os Massive Attack ajudaram a fundar, cujas origens estão em Inglaterra (Bristol se quisermos ser mais precisos) e que, de uma forma simples, pode descrever-se como eletrónica suave (downtempo), temperada com influências soul, jazz, reggae (e muitas outras, como várias fórmulas do hip-hop, também). Precursores desta fértil linhagem musical, Robert «3D» Del Naja e Grant «Daddy G» Marshall, os dois elementos fundadores da banda, têm por hábito, desde o arranque do projeto, chamar outros artistas para colaborar consigo: Horace Andy, nome grande da cena reggae, foi um deles. A cantora Shara Nelson foi escolhida para dar voz a Unfinished Sympathy, a 6ª faixa, o 2º single a ser extraído do disco de estreia e a canção que é considerada a génese do trip-hop. O tema, brilhante, é acompanhado do não menos genial vídeo-clip. Um plano único – sim, sem qualquer corte – filmado nas ruas de Los Angeles em que a câmara acompanha durante longos minutos – são 5:21 para ver sem pestanejar – a caminhada de Nelson. Trip what?! Hop! That's right: trip-hop, a genre that Massive Attack created. It’s origins are in England (Bristol if we want to be more precise) and this music style can be described as soft electronic (downtempo), with soul, reggae and jazz influences (and many others, like some of hip-hop’s formulas too). Precursors of this fertile musical lineage, Robert «3D» Del Naja and Grant «Daddy G» Marshall, the two founding members of the band, tend call other artist to collaborate with them. They do so since de beginning. Horace Andy, big name in the scene reggae, was one of them. The singer Shara Nelson was chosen to give voice to Unfinished Sympathy, the 6th track and the 2nd single to be taken from the debut album. This song is considered to be the genesis of trip-hop. Thi brilliant song found it’s perfect match in the video made for it. One continuous shot - yes, without any cuts - filmed on the streets of Los Angeles in which the camera follows Nelson as she walks for several minutes - 5:21 to watch without blinking. The game was on.
