Em 1967, a música dos Velvet Underground chegou a Nova Iorque vinda do futuro. Em 2012, eles continuam a ser do futuro. São o que há de vir, ainda que tudo se passe num qualquer mundo paralelo, aqui ao lado de nós. Os «amanhãs que cantam» dos Velvet (e da Nico!) são anunciados nesta All Tomorrow’s Parties, a sexta faixa do álbum de estreia da banda, o «disco da banana», oficialmente conhecido como The Velvet Underground and Nico. Era a preferida de Andy Warhol e, segundo Lou Reed, é inspirada nas pessoas que frequentavam a Factory e nas coisas que diziam, «as mais engraçadas, as mais tristes…». Há quem diga que o tema faz lembrar Edie Sedgwick; a mim parece-me a música perfeita para Nico. Tinha de ser o seu vozeirão a anunciar as All Tomorrow’s Parties, para que ninguém ouse duvidar. Elas virão. Eu seja cega! Não se deixem iludir por este presente a escorrer pelo ralo, por estes tempos que nos sacodem enquanto nos apertam o pescoço, nos deixam com a língua de fora, de olhos esbugalhados. Comecem a preparar a roupinha para usar, pois teremos sempre, sempre, as All Tomorrow’s Parties. Ai se não fosse este otimismo que deus (ou uma qualquer pancada na cabeça) me deu…

In 1967, the music of the Velvet Underground came to New York from the future. In 2012, they continue to arrive from the future. They are what is to come, even if everything is going on in any parallel world, here beside us. The «amanhãs que cantam (an expression that literally means ‘singing tomorrows)» of Velvet (and Nico!) are announced on All Tomorrow's Parties, the sixth track from the band's debut album, the 'banana album', officially known as The Velvet Underground and Nico. It was the favorite of Andy Warhol and, according to Lou Reed, is inspired by the people who attended the Factory and by the things they said, «the funniest, the saddest ...». Some say that the theme reminds Edie Sedgwick; to me it seems the perfect song for Nico. It had to be her booming voice announcing All Tomorrow's Parties, so that nobody dares to doubt. They will come. I’d rather go blind if they won’t come! Do not be mislead by this present time going down the drain, by these times that shake us and strangle us, forcing us to stick our tongue out and leaving us with bulging eyes.
