Alice no País dos Matraquilhos

Alice. É sem a mínima claridade de dúvida o meu tema preferido de Sérgio Godinho. Mas não me apetecia nada escrever sobre ele/ela. Despeitada com o meu desdém, assombrou-me em sonhos na noite de Natal. Não a música, a Alice. Vamos lá. Este tema dava um belo filme dos irmãos Dardenne. Começa logo com uma insinuação: «Mãe fora (em que avenida?)». Sim, Alice é filha de uma prostituta e de um desempregado enfurecido. Irmã de um «matraquilho no país dos generais», um soldadinho na caserna; amiga de uma ex-condenada. É filme a mais? Só para quem não mergulha nem quer mergulhar em certas vidas, certos bairros. Para quem tem medo de conhecer o outro, o alien, uma indiferença que não é mais do que medo de si próprio. Alice tem um método de fuga. Joga matraquilhos no café. Tem de haver um escape, um mundo paralelo para onde se viaja e onde se é feliz. Senão quem aguentava? É no café que Alice conhece um rapaz de capacete em punho, que lhe escreve «frases que são rastilhos». A poesia de Sérgio Godinho sabe a chocolate, mas há outra coisa. Ele - como Caetano Veloso ou Chico Buarque - é mestre em escrever com a voz de uma mulher. E Alice tem um final feliz? A letra insinua que sim, mas eu não sei se acredito nisso.

It's in the bar that Alice knows a guy, carrying a helmet in his hand, writing for her «sentences that are like fuses». The poetry of Sérgio Godinho tastes like chocolate, but there's something else. He - like Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque - is a master in writing from a woman’s point of view. Does Alice have a happy ending? The lyrics imply that yes, she has, but I do not know if I believe that.
