De Air (em Le Voyage dans la Lune, 2012)

Quando a viagem chega ao fim - falamos do álbum Le Voyage dans la Lune, com os Air a prestarem homenagem a George Meliès musicando o seu célebre filme mudo de 1902 – a linha melódica que nos fica, em loop viciante, na cabeça, é a de Sonic Armada. E é a essa sexta faixa que apetece regressar quando Lava, a 11ª e última, termina em fade out...

Há um ambiente de funk psicadélico neste tema, o mais enérgico momento do disco, a fazer-nos recuar até às cores dos anos 70 do século passado, ou mesmo mais atrás, ao psicadelismo único dos primeiros álbuns dos Pink Floyd, marcados pelo génio atormentado de Syd Barrett. Pouco depois de este projeto do duo francês ter sido anunciado, uma parte de Sonic Armada foi, por opção dos músicos, um dos primeiros excertos a serem revelados. A acompanhá-lo, algumas cenas desse filme verdadeiramente mágico, em que Meliès, com as mais rudimentares técnicas de efeitos especiais em cinema, nos mostrava uma lua expressiva, visitada por humanos. Sabia-se que Meliès tinha colorido, à mão, uma cópia do seu filme, mas considerava-se que esse bizarro tesouro estava perdido para sempre. Até que… apareceu, muito danificado, em Barcelona, em 1993. Com a ajuda das mais modernas tecnologias digitais pôs-se em marcha um complexo trabalho de recuperação. Essa nova versão estrearia no 64º Festival de Cannes, em 2011. A acompanhá-la, estava a música dos Air. De alguma forma, também eles coloriram, de novo, este filme filme histórico. Há viagens que nunca acabam.

When the journey comes to an end - we are talking about the album Le Voyage dans la Lune, where Air pay homage to George Méliès giving a new soundtrack to his famous 1902 silent film - the melodic line that keeps playing in our heads, in an addictive loop, is the one we hear in Sonic Armada.

There is an atmosphere of psychedelic funk in this track, the most energetic moment of the album, that make us go back to the colors of the last century 70s, or even earlier, to the psychedelia of the first albums of Pink Floyd, marked by the tormented genius of Syd Barrett. Shortly after this project of the french duo have been announced, a part of Sonic Armada was, by choice of the musicians, one of the first excerpts to be revealed. Accompanying it, some truly magical scenes of this movie, Le Voyage dans la Lune, in which Méliès, with the most rudimentary techniques of special effects in cinema, showed us an expressive moon, visited by humans. It was known that Méliès had colored by hand, a copy of his film, but everybody considered that this bizarre treasure was lost forever. Until... it appeared, badly damaged, in Barcelona, in 1993. With the help of the most modern digital technologies, a complex restoration work started some years later. This new version of the movie premiered at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, in 2011. Accompanying it, we could hear Air’s music. Somehow, they also colored, again, this historic piece of cinema. There are trips that never end.
And, after all, who arrived first on the moon? Méliès or Armstrong?
